Leigh Ober

Leigh is honored and thrilled to be part of the EWL team and help provide opportunities for young women to succeed in today’s increasingly challenging world.

It takes courage to dream and perseverance to bring dreams to reality. “Some of us have been fortunate to have been provided with many tools for success,” said Leigh. “It’s my responsibility to help create opportunity and provide encouragement for others to see that success is within their grasp. At EWL, we can pave the way through a financial hurdle and then, perhaps even more importantly, mentor these inspiring women on their journey to their definition of success.

Leigh’s career spans communications, human resources and operations. Leigh is currently vice president – human resources for Javelin Direct, an Omnicom direct marketing and customer relationship marketing agency. In the HR role, Leigh coaches employees at all levels to improve their effectiveness and leads a team that helps drive the business goals through recruiting, employee relations, talent management and organizational development.

Before joining the Javelin team, Leigh was a director – HR for Idearc Media (formerly Verizon Information Services). At Idearc, Leigh’s track record of improving business results also earned her leadership roles in customer service, public affairs and training. This combination of operational and corporate strategic roles enables Leigh to proactively identify and analyze ways to fully engage people to unify around a common objective and accomplish what’s required.

Leigh’s career also encompasses entrepreneurial experience. When she first relocated to Texas, she established Ober Communications Consulting, a firm specializing in employee engagement communications. Following a single consulting engagement with Verizon, she made the move to a full-time employee with the impressive telecommunications organization.

In another entrepreneurial environment, Nestle Waters (formerly The Perrier Group), Leigh led the employee communications activity that kept people focused on supporting the business during the national recall - and relaunch - of Perrier. Leigh previously held positions in other agency and consulting firms in Manhattan.

Leigh has served on the EWL Board since 2007. She is an advocate for working women and mentors and coaches several women. Leigh is also pursuing her certification as a professional coach to further enhance her ability to help others recognize their potential and find fulfillment in their lives.

Today, Leigh considers herself a true Texan – she loves it here - with strong roots in the northeast. Leigh’s a wife and mother of two children. She enjoys long walks, fitness, music, travel and reading. She loves to laugh, dance and spend time with friends.
