The Star Scholarship Program is designed to provide financial support toward college educations of high potential Texas residence women ages 23 and up regardless of race, religion, or creed. We call our selected women "Stars" because they are "Stars" in the world with the ability to make great things happen.
Supporting our Stars financially is important but we also understand that you can benefit far more by having the support of other women during the pursuit of an education and professional career. Having a large network of diverse women and a one-on-one mentoring relationship with an EWL leader is what distinguishes us from any other scholarship foundation.
Once you are selected as a Star, EWL will provide you with mentoring while you obtain your college degree all the way through the first two years of your career. Once you complete your course-work and become employed, you will be invited to become an EWL member and mentor new Stars in the program.
We pair Stars with experienced EWL professionals who have achieved significant success in the workplace and who can share learning experiences and provide support. The mentee and mentor are matched based on needs and interests through a mentoring profile. The relationship is a planned partnership over a one year timeframe with the frequency of interactions generally being at least once per month. Every year following we will reassess your needs and offer you the ability to continue your existing mentoring relationship or form a new one based on redefined needs.
Some of the most common benefits for participating in the Star Mentoring Program as a mentee include:
- Increase professional and leadership competencies in areas such as:
- Professional Image
- Impact and Influence
- Industry/Organizational Awareness
- Develop and implement plans for achieving goals
- Learn from experienced female leaders in the workplace
- Increase political savvy and business acumen
- Develop support networks, resources and professional relationships
In the pursuit of growth and learning, engaging in a mentoring relationship is a key component to success. EWL supports this growth and learning by providing a safe environment in which to share ideas, gain experiences, and embrace broader perspectives.
